Mesa Arizona

                                                                                              April 28, 2000

 Jim Umbarger:

I received the Grant H.S. class of ‘52’ news letter addressed to Bob Bums in an envelope with your name and return address so I assume you are the correct person to reply to. I did not see an e-mail address in the newsletter.

I am Carol Bums, the wife, and widow of Bob Burns. Bob had a heart attack and subsequent by-pass surgery in 1983 and as a result made a decision to move to Arizona in 198k He loved Arizona and the sales work he was doing for a small company in Mesa. He had also become a member of the Elks Club (Buckhorn), American Legion, Moose, and Eagles since there is a lack of the local neighborhood bars in the area, as we know them In the Midwest. He was most active in the Buckhorn Elks (sang a lot) and people still talk about him to this day. Bob died in August 1995 of an apparent heart attack; I was on travel for my company at the time he passed away

I found your new letter interesting and fin because I recognize so many of the names that Bob mentioned over the years and I did attend one class reunion with him many years ago. George Dryer and Bob use to meet at the Sail Inn and drink.

Our 4 children live in the Fox Lake/Spring Grove area and attended Big Hollow and all graduated from Grant. Our oldest daughter Erin Godonis works for Baxter, our son is a master marine mechanic at Watts Marina, another daughter owns her own construction business and the youngest son is a project manager for a corporation in Chicago and on the road continually. His wife, Eileen, is a flight attendant with American Airlines and her father owned Ricketts Chevy. In Fox Lake up until a few years ago.

Thank you for putting a note of brightness in my day.
