After graduation, Gene spent an interesting six months traveling around the country with a buddy, working at odd jobs like a car wash, washing dishes, cutting grass, and cleaning motel rooms.  They had a great time seeing the country.  Upon his return, he volunteered for two years in the U.S. Army and after Basic Training at Ft. Chaffee, AR, spent 14 months in Korea.

Upon his return to civilian life, Gene owned two restaurants, one in Antioch the other in Round Lake for about five years.  He then had the washing machine concession at Great Lakes Naval Base.  His political connection that made that possible died, and with it so did his concession.  Gene then spent 28 years as an Iron Worker.

Gene is now single, but has been married twice, having one child by each wife.  He also has six stepchildren and a total of 11 grandchildren.  He has a very good relationship with his former spouses.  He is in good health and like all of us, just wonders where the last 50 years have gone.
