CLASS NEWS LETTER

I am putting this out for feed back from as many of you as possible. What do you think about a 50th class reunion being held on a ship cruising the Caribbean, or meeting at a resort area, Las Vegas - Boloxi-gulfport - Orlando etc? Shouldn’t we do something bigger and bolder for the 50th reunion? after all this is the big one and could be the last one for some of us. We will all be 67 or 68 by then, after being out of school and working for that long I don’t think there should be anyone who can’t afford it. It is really not very expensive, and there would also be time to get reacquainted with each other. If that idea sounds dumb lets hear some better ones.

Does anyone remember when study hall was in the bleachers in The Gym? One time at the end of boys gym class we stripped a kid down. I don’t remember his name, then locked him out of the locker room so all he could do was run around the gym floor naked as the study hall class poured in, We thought it was hysterical but Mr. wade took a different view and a group of us boys had to run the bleachers for a week, it was worth it.Are there any other fun stories you would like to share with the rest of us.

Are there any other fun stories you would like to share with the rest of us?

Received the last news letter back from Betty Lou Lents-Smith no forwarding address, her last address was 2120 11th St. – apt 6 Winthrop Harbor Illinois. I called and her phone 847-746-3546 has been disconnected Does anyone have information about Betty Lou.

Robert Woloszyk came into my store 05/01/2000 and I don’t remember seeing him for maybe 47 years Bob went into the service just after graduation, and we had a short talk he was going to the new VA clinic that just opened up in McHenry County On Rt 31 near Crystal Lake. Bob also plans on having his own computer soon, he how goes to the library to log on to the Internet. I talked to him about having a class reunion in a fun location and it sounded good to him.

I see Donna Casey is now on ClassMates.com also La Verne Beskow and Richard Mauck now have their class picture on classmates, we are working on putting pictures of Phyillis Werhan and Abadine Hughes on soon. If anyone needs help with his or her pictures let me know. Also anyone on line should join 11 of us who have already signed up.

Has anyone seen Phyillis Werhan’s bio on Classmates we can all be proud to have such an accomplished person as a member of our class.

Below is a letter from Carol, widow of Bob Burns.

I received the Grant H.S. class of ‘52’ news letter addressed to Bob Burns in an envelope with your name and return address so I assume you are the correct person to reply to. I did not see an e-mail address in the newsletter.

I am Carol Burns, the wife, and widow of Bob Burns. Bob had a heart attack and subsequent by-pass surgery in 1983 and as a result made a decision to move to Arizona in 1984 He loved Arizona and the sales work he was doing for a small company in Mesa. He had also become a member of the Elks Club (Buckhorn), American Legion, Moose, and Eagles since there is a lack of the local neighborhood bars in the area, as we know them In the Midwest. He was most active in the Buckhorn Elks (sang a lot) and people still talk about him to this day. Bob died in August 1995 of an apparent heart attack; I was on travel for my company at the time he passed away

I found your new letter interesting and fun because I recognize so many of the names that Bob mentioned over the years and I did attend one class reunion with him many years ago. George Dryer and Bob use to meet at the Sail Inn and drink.

Our 4 children live in the Fox Lake/Spring Grove area and attended Big Hollow and all graduated from Grant. Our oldest daughter Erin Godonis works for Baxter, our son is a master marine mechanic at Watts Marina, another daughter owns her own construction business and the youngest son is a project manager for a corporation in Chicago and on the road continually. His wife, Eileen, is a flight attendant with American Airlines and her father owned Ricketts Chevy. In Fox Lake up until a few years ago.

Thank you for putting a note of brightness in my day.

Received a note from Winnie Pokryfke-Tascher she lives in Ingleside Il with her husband of 46 years they have 1 boy and 3 girls. One daughter works for a travel agent that does conventions so she has been able to travel to Italy, Greece, Egypt, and London etc. It sounds like she has been enjoying her self.

I see there are now 536 graduates of Grant registered on ClassMates.com but I thing the class of 1952 has the most registered with 11 lets keep up the good work and try for some more.

Roger Smith sent me an e-mail the other day talking about his trip to Mazatlan Mexico with his wife Linda, they stayed at the Playa Mazatlan for 11 nights did a little fishing and took a lot of side trips while there. Also Paul Frost and Wayne Ryckly are going out in June to do some fishing with Roger, Don Rosing planed to go but was unable to make the trip this time.

Don and Doris Rosing now have an e-mail address so drop them a note drosing@imaxx.net

Lets hear from more of you, I send out 59 letters and only receive information from a very few members of our class, we were the best class Grant ever had. I would expect a more literate response.

Keep your stories coming and I will include them in the next news letter
