Thank you for sending me the Newsletters. They are well done
and interesting, you and Phyllis are to be commended for undertaking the “52’
Reunion Party. Count me in on what ever & when ever it is to be held.
Many years (50) have never changed my
feelings in regard to my High School experience.
To me it has always been and will
continue to be the happiest times of my life. Because of our great Facility
& the diverse, unique personalities of all of us the class of “52” was the
Best.
I look forward to sharing past, present,
& future memories.
Sincerely
Jean Robin Hill.

E-mail From Barbara Swiderski |
Just a short note to let you know how much I
appreciated receiving the News letter.
I can't wait until next year and we can get together.
Thanks also for the e-mails, they were very interesting. I have located my high school graduation
picture so will get it in the mail, but please send it back, also have a new
picture of me with my step daughter and my grandson, will send that to you as
soon as I get a copy. I have a couple
of pictures taken with Jackie Stagg (she graduated in 1953) I will look for a
few more of some old ones of a group of girls at a party, will see what I can
find and will send them to you also. I
think my mom might have some of the, not sure lost a lot in a flood I had in
Florida.
Again
thanks for the newsletter, will get the pictures off and check to
off set the cost of the paper.
Your classmate, Barb (Swiderski) Brown, I just took
my other name back, so I am Barbara Brown again.

Note From Bill Fischer |

|
I guess you’d say I didn’t’ t move around much in 50
years because I live only 4 miles from where I lived in my high-school days.
But I gave Uncle Sam two years of that time, married, and raised two sons, and
am still running my own excavating business, and still married to the same
woman.
One of these days I may get old enough to retire, but
when I do, it will only be to start another business less demanding. Got to
keep going to hopefully, out run old age.

Yes, we sold our house, as of today, and will be moving to our new townhouse next Thursday. Although our buyer's house is sold, the buyers of it have a house to sell in nearby Cary. It is in a good price range, so we are hopeful it will all work out. But, with the world situation being what it is, you never know what might happen if we have another "Sept. 11th." We are holding our breath--
Does burying a St.
Joseph (patron saint of home and family) statue and saying the prescribed
prayers really work? All I can say is, my sister-in-law bought us one and
dropped it off on Monday before they went to FL. We hadn't had any
showings for 10 days. We thought "it's over until after the Holidays
--" Then Wed. morning a lady was driving by, saw our house and fell
in love with it. She took the flyer and about 15 mins. later the Realtor
Office called to see if she could come and look at it. She liked the
inside too, and brought her husband back the next day (Thurs.). They made
their first offer Thurs. evening and we have been countering back and forth
since then. Their agent is very slow in responding, so as a
result the last counter on Friday (which should have been the final
one), he took until this morning to get back to our agent with the
acceptance. We didn't really worry about it, we just thought "what
will be, will be." We're not thrilled with the fact there is another
house that needs to be sold. Our contract states the Cary
people have 30 days to sell it.

The previous couple of weeks have
been a whirlwind of activity around our home, with truing to finish some of the
pre winter yard chores, finish the painting of the sun broiled west windows, do
some of the honey dos and squeeze in a couple of weekend trips. The weather
forecasts were getting bleaker and the hours of daylight getting less each day.
“Honey, I’ve reserved a couple of swim lanes for this
evening”.
----“Yesssss deear” is my reply. But I do enjoy the
thrice-weekly swimming. I usually churn out a half mile in one continuous
effort. The treadmill or the stationary bike does not hold much allure for me,
as I would rather be outdoors even in the rain. I also regard the various
weight machines as necessary devices to keep my ever-aging body in some
semblance of shape.
Friday October 26th, we began a quick trip to Montana to pay our respects to son Scott’s father in law, Lynn Gerlinger who passed away recently. We traveled with friends Marge and Bill Petersen who also used to live in Montana and now reside in Washington. We were traveling in Marge’s car and stayed overnight in Coeur d Alene, Idaho. We arrived in Hamilton Montana around noon the following day and spent some time with Sally Gerlinger, Lynn’s widow. The house had a lot of traffic that day with neighbors and friend stopping by with cookies brownies and other tender morsels. One of my grandsons was working in the fields removing some fences and when he completed his work he came barreling up the drive in the tractor. When he jumped down there stood a tall, slender, shirtless, handsome young man no longer the gangly teen I knew last time I saw him. Later his twin brother came screeching in the drive, every bit as handsome. Gosh they had grown into fine looking young men. I seriously thought they belonged in the pages of some gentlemen’s fashion magazine. Janet will say I’m prejudiced and possibly I am, but latter at the reception following the service they sure had a gaggle of girls around them. And then there is Grand daughter Jessica who is now fifteen years of age, five foot ten inches and already good looking. I know see will be a knock out when she adds a couple of years. I wonder what will happen? Where will they go in life? Will they leave the valley for broader horizons or will they fall into the mold of their parents? Time will tell.
A stop for fuel and food (Mexican of course) was made id the
town of Zillah, WA. There are many people of Mexican heritage residing in the
Yakima Valley. On to North Bend, WA where we had left our car and on home.
Halloween around here was fun with Renee’s children dressed
and coming over to trick or treat. Chris and I took them Downtown Edmonds,
while Janet and Renee went to Renee’s spin class at the club. We loaded their
bags with goodies and returned home. We as usual had but one trick or treater
this year. The pickings are much better downtown I guess. Leaves me with all
the good chocolate.
This past weekend we attended a rock concert. Joe Cocker followed by the Guess Who group. Come
on you know them, songs like “American Woman” “Taking Care of Business” and
others. There were a lot of my age people there; you know the type, thin hair
and thick middles. Eve one had a good time and it brought back a lot of
memories.
That’s about it. Its back to the grind of everyday events,
paint, vacuum, honey do’s and of course “Yesss Deear.

Hi
Jim,
Well,
I actually didn't graduate from Grant, as I would have if I had stayed for my
senior year. As you may recall, the school went on shifts for the '51-52 school
year. That irritated my mother to the extent that she investigated other
options, and I
eventually
went to Shimer College, then in Mt. Carroll. Shimer had high school
accreditation too, so I received a HS diploma from Shimer in the spring of '52.
I finished another year there graduating with an AB degree in '53. No, it isn't
a "regular" degree,
but
the University of Chicago knew what to make of it so I went there for graduate
school, finishing with a PhD in Chemistry in '60. After a couple of years of
postdoctoral research at the University of Wisconsin, I joined the faculty here
at Washington
State
University in '62. I've been here ever since except for a sabbatical year in
Scotland in '75-'76. I partially retired in '99, and completely retired this
past fall. I enjoyed teaching at the University level, although I never made
any serious mark in research.
I
married a fellow U of C student (in social work) in '58, and we are still
married 43 years later. We have two kids, a son who is a physicist at the
National Institute of Standards and Technology near Washington DC (rather far
to go to see our two grandkids)
and
a daughter who is a correctional officer in North Carolina (soon to move to Spokane
WA, which is just fine with us).
I
can't say that I have thought much about Grant over the years, but now that
it's50 years since graduation for the class of '52, I've begun to wonder about
those years and what's transpired since. I wasn't a really active social
person, but I did play bass
clarinet
in the band and (clumsily) a little baseball. Both of my sisters, Sandy ('56)
and Jody ('58) graduated from Grant, and my dad was on the school board for
several years.
I
know that when I listed my graduation date as '52 on the classmates.com website
I was fudging things a little, but I couldn't think of a more honest way to
make contact. If you have a yearbook from '51 I'm probably in there with the
rest of the juniors.
Keep
me posted on what develops.
Thanks,
Kirk

I am writing in regards to our reunion of 2002, to give you
information about what is taking place in our lives. Well George retired in
1996 from local 150 after working for yrs. Then we sold our house in Ingleside
IL after 34 yrs and bought a park model in Elkhorn Wis. we stay there for the
summers. Been in Elkhorn for 4 yrs. For the winter we live in Florida we lived
in Vero Beach for 3 yrs. In a mobile home which was in a trailer park Midway

So we are now in Florida will be here to next May, but I am sure in the very
near future Florida will be our permanent home. But for now we still own our
place in Wisconsin. We have the best of both worlds.
As for our family our son Dale got married
10 years ago and blessed us with 4 beautiful grand children Brock (11) Jake (9)
Beau (8) & Jessica (5) Dale also
has a wonderful wife Laurel, Dale and his family reside in Gurnee IL, and the
whole family is doing great.
Dorothy & I are sure looking forward
to my class reunion and we will be very happy just being with everyone no
matter where it will be. You are doing a great job on getting everything
together. I did talk to Bill Swanson on the phone it sure was great hearing
from him. I haven’t seen many of my class mates for awhile so this reunion will
be that much more special. With living between 2 states it is hard to keep in
touch. So when you have the time & date for the reunion we really would
appreciate hearing from you, as our mail sometimes gets really missed. So
please keep those letters coming always glad to hear from you.
