EMAIL FROM FRANK LOMBARDO'S DAUGHTER
Regina [corona1@corecomm.net]
James,
I understand that you coordinated your last class reunion and thought you
would be the best person to contact on this matter.
My father, Frank Lombardo died unexpectedly this last Sunday (5/15). If
there is anyway you could pass this information along to his classmates, I
would greatly appreciate it.
There will be a memorial service this Saturday (5/21) at 1:00 at St.
Paul's UCC Church in Crystal Lake (485 Woodstock St.).
Thank you very much.
Sincerly,
Regina Lombardo

A personal Note:
I attended the service for Frank and got up in front of Frank's family and friends, I expressed the collective condolences to Frank's family from all of his classmates from the class of 1952. To me loosing a classmate is like loosing a brother or sister and I hope I am not along in that thought.
I spoke with
Frank two weeks before he passed away, he would stop in my store about once
a month to ask if I had any new news about our class members, we should be
proud to claim Frank as a member of our class.

Here is the obituary for Frank, from the North Suburban News Sun.

Email From Dick and Patti Mauck
Hi Jim and all,
Dick says hi to all too. We are back in Wisconsin, baking in the heat and drying up to boot this year. We sure could use some rain. I think this is the worse drought since 1992. I have enclose a photo of Dick and me at Epcot last April to put into your newsletter.
Florida was great this last winter, we didn't have a frost and hardly ran the heat or air conditioning all winter. And we came out of all those hurricanes last year with minimal damage, thank the Good Lord. We flew home at Christmas to be with family, and the view around Orlando from the air showed the extent of the damage with all the blue tarp roofs. You could just pick out where the winds were the most damaging. Our neighbors tell us that we got about 3 to 4 inches of rain from Dennis this year and no damage. Good, I hope it stays that way.
Since the reunion, Dick has lost over 60 pounds and has reversed his diabetes. He is no longer insulin dependant and he feels great about that. He is feeling very well and helping our oldest son, Pat build a big deck on his house. Dick is also in demand by my sister, who asked his help in designing her basement makeover, and our daughter, Cindy, who is redoing her laundry room. That, plus all the projects I have lined up for him, is keeping him busy most hours of the day.
Keeping two houses is a never ending job, but it is something we both enjoy doing together, whether it is putting in a new floor, gardening or building something, we always have something to do. It also gives us something to look forward to: in the fall we put the garden to bed, pack up the car with our two cats and canary, our computers, and some clothes and head south. We wonder along the way how our tropical plants have grown and if we will recognize the neighborhood kids after 6 months of growth. Then in the spring, just when our tropical flowers (gardenias and calla lilies) are coming into bloom we pack up the frozen orange juice, cats, canary, computers, etc. and head back north. Always thinking how great it will be to be near our children and grandchildren again and how much better a year we will have growing veggies and lilies, and whatever I planted last fall. I like to be home in time for the Daffodils, but alas, we have missed them 2 years in a row.
So life has taken us into a new rhythm of migration with the seasons. Dick loves it as he developed an "allergy" to snow, and while I miss the snow, I don't miss the cold. And since we both enjoy working in the garden so much, snow birding is our great compromise. As long as we can do it, we will.
God Bless you all,
Dick and Patti Mauck

Thanks for doing such a nice job with the Class of '52 website, Jim. Also, thanks for extending our sympathy as a class to Frank Lombardo's family.
Roman and I attended his 60th class reunion yesterday late afternoon at Dunhill's here in McHenry. About half of the 52 graduates of McHenry High Class of 1945 are deceased, several in the last five years.
We had a lovely dinner including two appetizers and dessert. The organizers charged $35 per person. There were small token pamphlets with interesting things like the cost of various items of food, homes, cars, etc. There were also small centerpieces on each table and the four who came from the greatest distance received T-shirts with "Proud to be from McHenry" printed on them, so that was the only extra expensive along with postage to send out the invitations.
I'm mentioning this because perhaps Dunhill's might be a good place to have the Class of '52 55th reunion.
The boating industry should be getting lots of activity this summer with all this heat -- imagine you are kept hopping.
Regards, Phyllis

Letter from
Gerry "Krippner" Spears
December
2005
Merry
Christmas... Happy Holidays
...Season's Greetings to all
As usual, it
was a very quick year for us
...
with dividing
our time in our home without
the wheels and the one with
the wheels. Started the year
wandering
Florida and
getting out of the Illinois
cold winter....still like
our stay in Fort Myers
Beach the
best...as the temperatures
and things to do like taking
the trolley bus to
the beach
fits us fine. Traffic
doesn't bother us. As we are
used to living around
here! We left
the motor home in the park
for a few days and went to
the east coast
of Florida
and took a cruise with
Ralph's retired Navy FOX
Division
... that gets
together
every other year. It was a
first cruise for me and as
Ralph's gang said
...
it
was a bit
fancier than his old ship.
So a good time was had by
all.
Arrived back
to Prospect Heights in April
...
and of course
was delighted to see
our smallest
Spears had grown so much in
such a short time. We
decided "Jaidyn" was more
interesting to add to our
Christmas picture-then just
seeing us.
Would
have liked to
have had the picture of the
Spears "six" but that is
hard to do with
everyone's
schedules being different.
Rory has
managed to get a few short
trips out in different
directions over the year...
(Has golf clubs. will
travel)... With trips to
Hawaii, Pinehurst, NC (HIS
FIRST HOLE IN
ONE!
YEAH!)....
Arizona...
Las Vegas
...
and any other
place that
has his
friends and golf courses. I
think the golf keeps him
sane as it gets him
away for a
short time from covering one
sports event to another and
the Chicago
traffic. Of
course this year he added
covering a "World Series" to
his list. .with the White
Sox win.
Reid and
Stacey keep their usual busy
pace plus now keeping track
of where
Jaidyn is
getting to around in the
house. Stacey teaches music
at a private school
and Reid
accompanies high school
chorus classes all day. We
laugh that Jaidyn will tell
people that Mommy teaches
but Daddy just "plays"...
Reid's school took
top honors
with their winning a first
place Golden Grammy Award
for their chorus department
... so it was
a big year for them. Stacey
also teaches and directs a
summer park
district program and this
year they did the Peanuts
Charley Brown
play with
Reid playing for the main
performances...so Stacey
could concentrate on
just
directing
...
so we were
happy to help with the baby
sitting for a couple days.
We spent a
couple months of summer
...
doing "fun
things”. Like Ralph adding
on to our
storage shed. .and other
misc. work around here
...
then in
August we took
off and went
to PA for another class
reunion
...
on to CN, NJ,
DC and VA to
sightsee and
visit with relatives and
friends
...
had a really
nice time
...
but a very
fast
month or so
on the road.
We wish you
all a very happy and healthy
2006

Hi Jim and Jane....
Was just thinking of you
the other day and
realized I had not
checked
our school site in
awhile. You have done
one great job with it
...
many thanks! We are into our
last couple weeks in the
cold country... have had
enough of the "snow
flurries"...that we keep
having to clear away. If
all goes as planned we
will pack the motor home
and head south right
after Christmas.... back
probably in April some
time.
Hope both of you and
your family have a nice
Christmas and a happy
and healthy year to come

enclosing a donation to
help keep the site going

How sad that yet another class mate has gone. It
seems that those of us that grew up in that area are
experiencing early deaths. Makes you wonder why.
Wonder if any of us will make it to our 80's and
90's. I am sure I will not be on the list. As I have
told you before, I have a serious heart condition
called, congestive heart failure. There are four
stages to this condition and I am now in the high
side of #3. There is not any cure or therapy for it.
At the end of #4, it is all over with.
There is not any way to forecast how long the
different stages last. I have already taken all the
treatments available for this condition. I just
swallow lots of pills now. Hopefully, either I or
one of my kids, will be able to inform you and
others, when the last stages are here. It is all in
the hands of our Lord. Take care my friend. Hope all
is going
well for you and your family.
