We have found Leora Rostad-Kowynia, but sadly, we were about ten days too late.  (See the attached message from the wife of Ed Rostad, Leora's brother.)

I was able to get Ed's e-mail address from Charlene (Lumber) Jankirk's Class of 1951 reunion booklet.  When I e-mailed him, his wife wrote back that there had been a family dispute and that they had lost contact with her quite some time ago.

Although I had tried the Internet search for Leora before the reunion, I did not have her husband's name, so I was unsuccessful in locating her.  Armed with her husband's first name, provided by Ed, I did another search.  The first one I tried was successful, in that a Robert was found, with a birth of June 1932 which would "fit" for being the husband of Leora, but I would have had to pay $10 to get the address.  I tried a different "People Search" and located the address free of charge.

So, the moral of the story is: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

Phyllis, we want to thank you for the address and telephone number, it is the right everything, Ed called there, and we just got off the telephone.  You might like to forward this on to some of your classmates; we just got terrible news; as they say "Tomorrow is promised to nobody, that is why today a present is."  Leora passed away last Saturday of a massive stroke at home, the funeral was this past Wednesday, the 30th.  Ed talked to her husband, and Leora's daughter who came in from Michigan; they were looking for us in recent years too. We are in shock here, although Ed and Leora had not spoken since 1975.  She has three daughters and they are going to be in touch with us.  We are going to send a donation to make a Wish Foundation in her memory. She was on medicine for high blood pressure; but a few days before she passed on she was not feeling well.

Whatever it was that inspired you to follow through with this project, we appreciate it very much.  I am only sorry the information was more of a happy sort.  God Bless you and your loved ones, and a Happy Holiday Season to all of your classmates.

Email from Dick Ed Bernhart 02/12/2003

Hi there Jim: I haven't checked the 'Classmates' site for some time, but  something told me to do so today............'lo and behold' there was a notification of your site. First of all, congratulations on a most wonderful, newsy and very professional looking site for the 'Class of 1952'.  You are truly to be commended on all the work it must have taken to set it up.

I know you were aware of our 'Class of 1951' Reunion held in conjunction with the Homecoming, September 29th 2001.  I wish more of you had made your presence known at the game.............we would have been delighted to, 'chew the fat with you'.  We were blessed to have 38 of our original class attend the festivities.  Of course, our wonderful Class President, Connie Walker hosted our event......with the help of a lot of 'silent helpers'.

I was the Classmate who traveled the farthest to attend...........all the way from San Jose, California (about 45 miles from San Francisco).  It was my first return to fox Lake since our graduation in 1951..............and what a treat it was for me.  So many people and so little time!

I particularly enjoyed looking at the photos of your class (both the new and old ones)..............they certainly brought back lots of memories.

I am going to take the liberty of forwarding your e-mail address and that of your site to several of my classmates who will share my interest.

I sincerely hope will find a way to convey my best wishes to all of your classmates................not that they will remember me...........but just in case they do......................Warmest regards, Ed Bernhardt Class of 1951

My sisters Carole Ann, and Audrey both went to Grant. Both are dead now. Carole in Oct. 1995 and Audy in Dec.2002. I have to talk to Dee (Bergloff) Thompson, as she has Betty Lents address. Betty is in Ariz. She has had a bout with cancer, but last I heard she is ok. I thank you for

sharing your site with us.  I like the site and you are doing a good job.

However we the class of 1951 still think we were the best. Maybe that is good, as we are all Grant High Schools Best!!!      Keep up the good work

     Hello Jim,

I received your address from Ed Bernhardt. I am Hazel Puckey Morley from the class of 51. You probably won’t remember me but I do remember your name. I don’t know what Ed shared about the site you created but I know he was impressed.

Charlene Lumber VanKirk loaned me the booklet you had made for your reunion. I was impressed by the content and quality. Ed suggested we drop in and say hello. I’m sure you will be hearing from him as we attempt to continue on with ours. Hope things are going well for you.

Hey Jim, what a great site you put on the net.  I would like to know if you ever found Lester Gnadt and does he have an E-Mail and home address.  Would appreciate it if you would let me know.  Thanks, Jim Barrett

Email from Doris Rossdeutcher Schneider 02/14/2003

Hello, I am a class of 1951 graduate of Grant High.  I received an e-mail this morning from Ed Burnhardt. I went to your class site and didn't have time to look it over as well as I would like, but I loved what I saw. I don't know if you have found Betty Lents Smith or not, so I can help you. Betty is living in Las Vegas. Her address is 3724 White Plains Dr. Las Vegas, NV. 89129. I tried to e-mail you at mc.net, and it came back unknown. Her phone number is 702-655-4771.

I am Doris Rossdeutcher Schneider. I have to admit I don't remember you, but I don't remember very much about my four years at grant. I have a case of CRS. I have been looking and asking everyone about Elaine Raska. Thanks to your site I found her address. Enough for now, I hope this helps you
